December 2004 BoD Meeting Minutes

MINUTES
NDIA-GLAC Annual Board of Directors Meeting, December 2, 2004
Lockheed Martin, El Segundo, CA


ATTENDANCE:
Present were: John Burkhart, Steve Scott (Harris), Jeanne Innis-Olson, Len Jacobsen, Jim Gates, Linda Taylor, Don Tomajan, Robert Smith, James Dalton, Spencer Bauer, Bob Conger, Nancy FitzGerald, Dan Foley, Jim Grace, Dave Murphy, Bob Recker, Steve Scott (Raytheon), Robert Skloss

President John Burkhart called the meeting to order. Bob Smith presented Lockheed Martin’s briefing. Those present gave company remarks.

PRESIDENT’S REMARKS:
John Burkhart reported on the Bob Hope award: Dr Elachi from JPL has been selected to receive the Bob Hope award.

SECRETARY’S REPORT:
Jeanne Innis-Olson distributed the roster for attendance and update. The minutes from November were reviewed, corrected and accepted as corrected.

TREASURER’S REPORT:
Dan Burkett was not present and had had a hard drive failure. He was unable to present a report, but e-mailed the report the following week. John Burkhart mentioned that discussions continue related to how large of a reserve the chapter can hold in its account.

COMMITTEE REPORTS:

Disbursements:
Lorne Caddick was not present. John B. presented the disbursement report. The Disbursements committee has established, and the Board has approved a goal of $30K for the year. This will include $10K to the USO, $2500 to SMC quarterly recognition awards, $250 to the Wes Clark scholarship. Other ideas include continuing with DARE Plus, South-East Academy, Space Camp Scholarships and the QM Space Camp. Lorne will present additional details to the Board.

Website:
Walter Meares was not in attendance, and has become very busy with his new position. Linda Taylor volunteered to be Walt’s back-up, so please include Linda on anything that needs posting to the Website.

Membership:
Len Jacobson reported that we have over 1600 members in our chapter. Jeanne took the action to delete Sheldon Friedman from the Board roster and to send Len the list-of-attendees from recent meetings.

Communications:
Linda Taylor reported that she is working publicity for the WCD. Linda reminded the Board that she will need to send photographs of events in order to get into the National mangazine.

SMC Interface:
Linda Taylor presented a discussion of SMC working groups.

Bob Conger brought up the issue of conflicting events that led to a discussion of the Space Calendar and the ‘deconflicting’ of speakers among the various organizations.

Programs:
Jim Gates announced the results of his survey. The top items included Sea Launch, trip to Vandenbrg, Coast Guard Operations, and Boeing Satellite Systems. Jim is working to see if he can schedule the Boeing tour.

Golf:
Bob Smith reported that the Golf Tournament is scheduled for 7 June at Los Serranos. A discussion was held concerning the question of whether or not we can have industry sponsorship of foursomes. Bob will need to explore this with the JAG ASAP.

Industry Days:
Bob Recker reported that the dates are set at Tuesday – Thursday, April 19-21 at the Joint Reserve Training Center, Los Alamitos. The event is to remain classified.

A BRAC related discussion was held.

The next meeting will be held on January 6, 2005 at Northrop Grumman.
