NDIA-GLAC Annual Board of Directors Meeting, January 6, 2004
Northrop Grumman, Redondo Beach, CA


ATTENDANCE:
Present were: John Burkhart (by proxy), Steve Scott (Harris), Jeanne Innis-Olson, Dan Burkett (by proxy), Lorne Caddick, Len Jacobson, Jim Gates, Linda Taylor, Don Tomajan (by proxy), Robert Smith, James Dalton, B. Vice President Steve Scott called the meeting to order. Jeanne Innis Olson presented Northrop Grumman’s briefing. Those present gave company remarks.

PRESIDENT’S REMARKS:
Steve Scott presented the NDIA BoD Host Sign-Up list for information and validation.

TREASURER’S REPORT:
Steve Scott presented the treasurer’s report for Dan Burkett who was on travel. Steve will ask Dan to work the issue of $11K outstanding from the 2004 WCD. He needs to determine who/what companies are in arrears.

SECRETARY’S REPORT:
Jeanne Innis-Olson distributed the roster for attendance and update. The minutes from December were reviewed and accepted.

COMMITTEE REPORTS:

Disbursements:
Lorne Caddick presented the Disbursements Committee Report. John B. presented the disbursement report. The Board approved $10K to the USO, $2500 to SMC quarterly recognition awards, $250 to the Wes Clark scholarship. Other ideas include continuing with DARE Plus, South-East Academy, Space Camp Scholarships and the QM Space Camp. Lorne will present additional details to the Board. Also, Lorne will look into whether or not National is providing donations to the victims of the Tsunami. There was a discussion of members of the board’s desire to give donations that are more closely related to deployed troops.

Membership:
Len Jacobson reported that there are 1500+ members in our chapter, of which 550 are corporate members. Len thanked all for attending the board meeting.

Communications:
Linda Taylor reported that she is working publicity for the WCD. Linda reminded the Board that she will need to send photographs of events in order to get into the National magazine. She also mentioned that Major Bruce Spencer, the keeper of the CD with photographs from last year’s WCD is now deployed.

SMC Interface:
Linda Taylor presented a discussion of SMC working groups. The Systems Engineering Working Group met 3 or 4 times and hasn’t had any meetings since October. The other committees are now defunct. What does SMC want or need from Industry?

Website:
Walter Meares was not in attendance, but is continuing to upload documents to the website.

Programs:
Bob Recker reported that Industry Days is Scheduled for 19-21 April, Los Alamitos. Dave Murphy is planning the golf tournament in conjunction with Industry Days. Los Alamitos is already booked. Skylinks in Long Beach is the fall back location for the tournament on 21 April. The Golf Tournament is also part of the AFA Sports Day.

Jim Gates discussed the possible upcoming events. We might be too large of a group for a SeaLaunch tour. The C-17 might work. The BSS could do a lunch and tour. Jim will have a schedule and proposal by the next BoD meeting.

Bob Smith reported that the Chapter Golf Tournament is scheduled for 7 June at Los Serranos.

WCD:
Jan provided a list of tables purchased for the 2004 WCD. At the time of the meeting, we were down 60%. We usually had 20 tables by beginning of January; we currently sand at 8. Steve Scott committed to poll the Board Members to get an indication of intent to purchase tables.

Entertainment: The pipers are confirmed; the band and strolling strings are in the budget.

New Business:
General Dalton initiated a discussion of the AF Village in San Antonio. The AF Village has increasing need to support Alzheimer’s and hospice specific needs. The AF Village is attempting to raise $9M. General Dalton will send information to Board Members from various corporations and asked those individuals to pursue donations from their corporations.

General Dalton discussed lessons learned from obtaining a speaker for the WCD. He suggested that it is less likely to get a commitment form anyone in DC. The CINCs usually have more control over individual schedules.

The next meeting will be held on February 3, 2005 at Sparta.
